Name Your Work: Language to Lead with Intention and Conviction

The Book

Precise Language is the Labor of Leadership

As leaders, we want to express something important with nuance—but struggle to be understood. We long to lead with razor-sharp intention and impassioned conviction—but struggle to be seen and known.

Naming Your Work isn’t discovery but uncovering.

You know who you are. You know what your work is. You just need the words, the name, to tell us what it is.

This book is for you, your teams, and your dreams if:

  • You know what you have to say but can’t find the words to say it.

  • You long to be seen for the full breadth and depth of your contributions.

  • You lead diverse teams and ground-breaking projects but can’t verbalize the thread that unifies your efforts.

  • You work in a high impact space with unclear metrics for success—which makes decision-making and collaboration tricky.

  • You are a career coach looking for a tool that helps your people develop the language that follows the fresh clarity in their vision.

It draws on my 8 years as a solopreneur for eight years where she lead unboxable leaders to name their work so they can have the impact they sought in the world.

Design

I chose to use a high-end designer trained in both USA and European markets. I wanted the book to appeal aesthetically to business leaders and stand out from the red/green/orange rah-rah choices in contemporary Silicon valley influenced color palletes.

In keeping with the unique quality of the print design, I opted against print-on-demand services. These companies offer no customer service until distribution while their product is riddled with errors and defects. I used a printing press in Philadelphia who could offer excellent color matching and lux matte paper options. As a self-published writer, I funded the printing myself and opted for a micro-run. This fit my on-the-go audience who was most likely to first purchase an ebook; print copies are for notable books they have already experienced and loved and want to add to their personal library.

The book also needed to feel accessible and friendly to those in transition and self-discovery. Instead of a workbook size or a bulky hardback, I opted to size the book as a handheld paperback. I imagined this book becoming a close companion and friend, shoved in bags to keep accessible while flying or grabbing a train or a few moments in a car.
